Portfolio Book Ver.02: Kerby Kennel

The project was for a client that approached one of the design instructors at The Art Institute for re-branding the cities kennel. His instructor in turn gave the project to the class that Robert was attending. His instructor had the client come to the class to talk about what they were needing and answer any question anyone would have. The client needed new signs, a logo, and other elements to go in the new building they are constructing for their expansion. He had taken what he could from the meeting with the client and formed a process for the project. He took inspiration from the city of Kirby logo and the state of Texas seal. After a few thumbnails and Google search he had a voice for the kennel. His concept was to give the kennel more of an official authority disposition, then the current nonprofit charity identity. Robert felt that more people would take notice and remember the kennel if they associated respecting them as officers then as a dog catcher. He achieved this in two ways. First he started with the logo from the City of Kirby. He then updated that to include K-9 and feline silhouettes. Robert added the name of the kennel, and the Texas lone star in the center of the circle. This helps the public identify that these are professionals that work with the city, thus people will respect them as officers. Second, he provided signage that enforced a happy experience in an otherwise distressed reason for them to be at the kennel. Doing this uses psychology that reinforces positive conditioning, teaching the public the Kirby Kennel is a very respectable and capable place.
